Dalam memberikan nama kepada anak, mungkin di antara para orang tua belum mengetahui kaidah Islam mengenai nama-nama yang boleh, makruh, dan bahkan diharamkan. Untuk menghindari dan ataupun memperbaiki kesalahan dalam memberikan nama pada anak, berikut adalah ulasannya.

c. Dimakruhkan memberi nama anak dengan nama para pengikut Fir’aun, misal: Fir’aun, Qarun, dan Haman.
d. Dimakruhkan memberi nama anak dengan nama-nama hewan yang telah dikenal akan sifatsifat jeleknya, misal: Anjing, keledai dll.
e. Dimakruhkan memberi nama anak dengan Ism, mashdar, atau sifat-sifat yang menyerupai terhadap lafzdz “agama”, dan lafadz “Islam”, misal: Nurruddin, Dliyauddin, Saiful Islam dll.
f. Dimakruhkan memberi nama ganda, misal: Muhammad Ahmad, Muhammad Sa’id, dll.
g. Para ulama memakruhkan memberi nama dengan nama-nama surat dalam Al-Qur’an, misal: Thoha, Yasin dll.
Solusi
Jalan keluar dari kedua hal ini adalah mengubah nama-nama tersebut dengan nama-nama yang disukai (mustahab) atau yang diperbolehkan secara syar’i. Dan untuk merubah nama ini kita dapat mendatangi kementrian/departemen yang mengurusi masalah ini.
Sesungguhnya Rasulullah Saw. mengubah nama-nama yang mengandung makna kesyirikan kepada Allah SWT kepada nama-nama Islami, dari nama-nama kufur kepada nama-nama imaniyah.
Diriwayatkan dari ‘Aisyah radhaiallahu ‘anha, ia berkata:
“Sesungguhnya Rasulullah shalallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam merubah nama-nama yang jelek menjadi nama-nama yang baik,” (HR. AT-Tirmidzi).
Demikianlah Nabi Saw. mengubah nama-nama yang jelek dengan nama-nama yang baik, seperti beliau Saw. mengubah nama Syihab menjadi Hisyam dll. Demikian juga kita mesti mengubah nama-nama yang buruk menjadi nama-nama yang baik, misal: Abdun Nabi menjadi Abdul Ghoniy, Abdur Rasul menjadi Abdul Ghofur, Abdul Husain menjadi Abdurrahman dll.
